The Diaries of Adam And Eve- By David Birney,
directed by Bret Jones

In 1893, Mark Twain wrote "Extracts from the Diary of Adam" and, following the death of his beloved wife, "Diary of Eve." Playwright David Birney bound those stories into The Diaries of Adam and Eve, a heartfelt comedy about the First Couple at the dawn of time.

Originally broadcast on American Playhouse, Birney's Delightful adaptation is set in a victorian garden and is structured as a series of diary entries by the first humans. At first, Adam is puzzled by a new arrival in the garden and suspicious of her disturbing appetite for fruit. Eve believes herself to be some sort of experiment and gives names to everything in Eden, much to Adam's Annoyance. He tries to ignore her, which drives her to seek companionship among the animals... Especially a certain devious reptile.

"A reminder of Twain's store telling genius. flavorful as apple cider." --Los Angeles Times

"stores don't get any more universal. The Diaries of Adam and Eve is a delectable bit of romantic conjecture as to how it all may have happened. Grateful humans will miss this show at their peril... It's a touching moment of theatre." -- San Francisco Chronicle
